DEFEATING RECOGNTION is, at the moment, an entirely self-funded project. We are passionate about this work and wish to avoid outside influences that can come with other funding sources.
However, because of this, progress can vary in speed.
We would like to eventually crowdfund the production of UNIT 1, most likely using Kickstarter. However, a few more things need to happen before we can do this.
Here’s a quick and dirty summary of project progress so far:
Before we do official announcements, we want to have manufacturing samples in, and have the content we need to draft the Kickstarter page.
When the Kickstarter project does launch, it will be an all-or-nothing campaign. We will be pricing UNIT 1 at or near actual manufacturing/shipping cost, which means all pledge tiers will be based on the final number we need to do this economically. Therefore, partial funding would be ineffective. All Kickstarter proceeds will go directly to project costs. Any additional leftover funds will be donated to organizations committed to protecting your digital privacy (FFTF, EFF, Signal Foundation, Mozilla Foundation, etc.).
Once funded, we are committing to weekly updates regardless of project progress.
An accurate timeline is difficult to provide at this stage, but rest assured we are working continuously to bring this to you. We do feel confident in saying that once the UNIT 1 announcement is made, the Kickstarter will be announced soon after.
